Is it wimpy to ask her out on aim?

there is this girl who i have wanted to ask out for a week now and she knows that i like her. My friends say that most people are age(13) ask them out on aim or by a txt but i feel like she would think im a wimp. They have done it by txt and aim but im not sure if i shld... wat do you think?
