How come these verses'1cor.14:34-35' offend atheists and feminists?

What is not right? The bible is literature. You can bend it any way you see fit. Not everybody thinks that this stuff is true anyway. Back in they day, things were mighty different. We are in the 21st century a.d. now, not 1st century b.c.
