Going to hawaii fall 2010 8 days. 25th anniversary she wants oahu I want kauai. Is Maui good compromise.?

She likes Oahu because it has everything close by and its open late shopping, restaurants. sightseeing. beaches. I want kauai because it is more laid back, scenic and I hate crowds. Is maui a good compromise or is the big island better for us.
